Arguably the most cosmopolitan city of
India, Mumbai is a must for travelers. Being the commercial hub of India, Mumbai
is the main international gateway to the country. The city has far more international
flights than Delhi, Kolkata or Chennai. It also has the busiest network of
domestic flights, including flights to Aurangabad the base for visiting the
world heritage sites of Ellora and Ajanta caves. The international airport
(Sahar) and the domestic terminal (Santa Cruz) are 30km and 25km respectively
from the center of Mumbai. You have a good facilities shuttle buses between
the two terminals. Long-distance buses ply from the state road transport terminal
opposite Mumbai's Central railway station to different destination within the
state of Maharashtra and outside the state. The state buses of Goa, Gujarat,
Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh connect Mumbai to different places in these states. Mumbai
is the headquarters of two railway zones - Central Railways and Western Railways.
Chhatrapati Sivaji Terminus (formerly called Victoria Terminus) and Churchgate
are the two important railheads.
Travel to Mumbai by Air
Mumbai is India's international gateway. It has also the busiest domestic
air network in the country. The international terminal is at Sahar, which
is 30 km north of the city center. The domestic terminal at Santa Cruz
is just 4 km away.
Travel to Mumbai by Rail
Mumbai is a prominent railway hub of the country. It is the headquarters
to two railway zones, Central and Western. The main railway station is
Victoria Terminal, now renamed Chattrapati Shivaji Terminal. Other railway
stations are Dadar, Churchgate, and Kurla. Express and super-fast trains
are available for most of the Indian cities from Mumbai.
