From Manali the trip alone the spectacular mountain road to Leh is Dharamsala, home in exile for the Dalai Lama, and a host of other hill stations, Lakes, walks and mountains. The 4500 metre Kunzum Pass connects the Lahul and Spiti Valleys. There are few settlement in this barren, high region . Kaza is the main village and district headquarter of Spiti. Slightly north- west of it is Kibar, which at 4205 meters is reputed to be the highest village in the world. Tabo , Ki and Dhankar are the most important monasteries in this Buddhist area. This dramatic region is connected by the Indo Tibet highway to Kinnaur and Shimla.
